The Roots We Hold

Created by Claire Hong

"My piece explores the relationship between heritage and the future. The cracked porcelain pot represents cultural history, which is fragile, weathered, and shaped by time. From the cracks in the pot, roots emerge and wrap around the hand, symbolizing how ancestry and memory continue to ground and support us even through struggle. The hand holds the vessel as it breaks, reflecting the responsibility of each generation to preserve what came before. From the soil, a small sprout grows, representing hope and the continuation of culture into the future."
