"Growing up Korean, there was always a stereotype. White face, perfect skin, waist as small as a A4 paper…I never looked like that. I had tanned skin, acne, makeup that was “too much” for my church, and my waist was in fact not as tiny as a paper. This painting honors those who chose to be "different" and defined the standards with piercings, long nails, and dyed hair. My painting serves as a reminder that you shouldn’t hold yourself to the toxic standards. Get that piercing, go dye your hair, embrace who you truly are, you got this."
