In the Arms of Destiny
Written by Maysoon Sheikh from CreativityUnleashed - London, UK
I hadn’t known
in the innocence of childhood
that a light had set me in his sight,
that amidst the thrill of childish play
he set a card down in front of me
painted jade in my memory
and smiled in a cunning way.
I hadn’t known
in the leisure of that very moment
that Destiny had claimed me as a light of his own.
I hadn’t known
the throes of his darkest hours
were ones that paralleled mine.
If we had known the tales
of each other’s woes
perhaps those tales would be redefined,
perhaps our paths were already entwined
in the cards that favoured fate’s design.
I know now
that Destiny had waited several summers
with the spirit of the stillest waters,
with a heart that still sought hers;
the girl whose light he favours.
I know now
I myself had been waiting
for a kindle that would awaken
a latent greed for your fatal decree
for the girl who fell for Destiny.
I can’t say for sure yet where this will moor
there are doors that consume the light you store
But something seems to gleam from beyond
its corners. Borders we’re warned of fall
by the will of its call. It has tied our fates
both mine and yours;
Destiny is making its mark on me once more.
